The Entry Hall

{images via here}

A front entry is the first place where guests get a taste for who you are. I believe this space should be special whether you have a specified area or you have to create one. In the Domino book they have a lovely write up with wonderful ideas on making it special. I love what Rita Konig said, "When I added the table and lamp, suddenly my sliver of a hall became a room". I already had the table and now I have the lamp. I must admit it gave the space a whole new feel. Here is the before shot in case you were intrigued. This is the new "room"...

With spring approaching the winter hats will be changed out with summer ones. I am hoping to find a fabulous new one for this summer. As for the tricylcle, it has somehow made its into the house and the my little lady loves riding it around while little brother holds on for dear life while riding on the back. It is quite a sight to see.

Wow! Looks great, Ellie! I am totally head over heels for that white console table. Love it!
I have a big post planned that will feature all sorts of entry ways and how to achieve the look you're after. Should be able to post that soon so I was excited to see your foyer here today!
Also, ATNY emailed me about the DIY shades post I just did, but I'm a little nervous about those notoriously nasty commenters!! Time for me to develop some thick skin, I guess!!

I love entry halls, and came over to check out this post because of the title! I love what you have done.

It took me over a year to get my entry in good shape, mainly because my mirror took 6 months to come in! But, I agree with the Domino editor, once I put a great lamp there it all started coming together. I posted a picture of my entry on a recent post on flowering quince, but I am planning on doing a big entry 'reveal' once I get a pillow made for the chair in the front hall.

This has inspired me to go to the seamstress today - she was out of the country for a month, but is back now!

ohhhh, I would love a home that has an entry hall, or knook or whatever. Our door opens right up into our living room. I have been toying with the idea of a curtain like the one is photo #2....or a bookshelf or soemthing, who WHO, I ask you wants to walk right into the coffee table when they open the door??? What where these people smoking in 1920???

I just love entry way pics! You can do so much in such a small little space. Yours looks great with the new lamp!

Love the hats! Such a cute idea - you did a great job! My entry needs some work so thanks so much for the inspriation! We also have bikes in the house - they get so much more use in the winter that way. Love how you incorporated it into your decor... so clever you are!

It looks great. It's got me thinking I need to add an outlet in our entry hall. Such ambiance! And I went back to take a peak at your before and I love all the other areas you highlighted... Those cubbies are so what we need! Your hubby did an awesome job on them!

Oh, I love what you did with it compared to the before! I don't think I have enough room for any real furniture in my entry way:/ Maybe I should just get a beautiful large mirror like that one!

There is the smallest nook behind my front door and I always wonder if I could make into something. It is impossible by the way. I look forward to a house with great entry!

Entries can be so fun to work with, change up, and add an element or two of surprise! I really like that full, floor length curtain shown in photo 02, what a cozy element to the entry. In photo 04, the repetition of bold mirrors adds so much to that hallway. One wouldn't worry about finding a mirror while trying to apply lipstick, flying out the door! Nice new hallway :)

your entry way is GORGEOUS. any guest must feel so lucky to come into your home!

I am LOVING those top two, but maybe I like yours best. The bike & boots need to stay there, do not let the children play with them ; ) !
