Shopping Hiatus: 9 weeks down

Yeah! I actually have a good report for this week, I did not shop! It feels good, although we completely busted the food budget for the month. My hubby had a slight health scare so we as a family are eating much better. All fish, chicken, and fresh fruit and vegetables adds up much faster than the boxed tacos we were accustomed to eating at least a few days a week. Oh well, that is now a necessity. If I were shopping though I would invest in some more clothes for the gym. I have been working out 4 to 6 days a week for the last 6 weeks and I love it. No, I am not doing it to lose weight, but instead to tone and have overall better health. Now having hubby in the gym with me the last couple of weeks makes it even better. I also feel my kiddos like me a lot more when they have a little break from me. I never thought I would love working out as much as I do. Honestly when I began I wasn't sure if it would last so I've kept to my few gym items and now that I am addicted to going it is time to expand my wardrobe. These are a few items I would like to have...

How is the hiatus going for you? I can't believe we are almost there. I really do believe I will make smarter purchases from here on out. I also now realize it's not so hard to go a few months without shopping in order to save for something fabulous. This hiatus I have been scrounging the pennies in order to buy my hubby's camera so he can buy a new camera for the photography business. We are almost there, yeah!

*Update: So embarrassing, but I bought a dress for $20. It is long and gray made with the softest t-shirt material I have ever felt. Plus I think hubby will think I will look hot in it when we go to the beach next week. So it's more for him than me, right?

The dress purchase is totally justified...it's for him, not you. Technically :)

I hope your husband is doing well! Don't worry about the dress, $20 is worth it!

It's crazy how eating healthy costs more... It's worth it though, but I think it should be flip-flopped.

The dress sounds great, especially with that toned body you've been working on! I'm sure you're still ahead on the whole hiatus. It's sounds like you are doing so good... And you can lump it into the vacation budget??

Wink, wink, I'm totally "buying" your rationale on the purchase. Seems completely legit to me! ;0)

I think we can let the $20 dress slide :) plus if hubby likes it then it is more for him!! :)

Love Luluelemon - we have one at our mall. I think good workout clothes are a good investment... too cheap and they wear out on you too fast.

BTW - kudos for you for hitting the gym! I need to make it there a little more often!

Work out clothes have been tempting me too! I'm making a list of what items I need to update my gym wardrobe when we're done with the hiatus.

Good for you on holding strong!

Target has really good and inexpensive workout stuff. That's where I got a bunch of mine this winter!

Great work! And as the others have mentioned the dress isn't technically for you =)

Gym clothes are always a good investment. You're so dedicated to be able to work that many times a week! Keep it up!

Good job! I need some workout clothes and these are super cute. Maybe it will get me to work out.

FYI: I did a small feature of your husbands photography on my design lovely blog today. His work is very inspirational. Thank you!

Oh dear...Paula, you are far stronger than I! I broke down not once, but twice today :( I am happy and ashamed at the same time.

P.S I totally get the dress thing! /Don't feel embarrassed, it sounds amazing!

Yeah eating healthy does cost alot more than the convienance foods, but I think it pays off in the long run you feel better, and your overall health is much better so you don't have to make as many frequent doctor visits....I totally understand the convienance foods though cause with kids its hard to keep it all together, sometimes you just want to throw a pizza in the oven and chill. Congratulations on the shopping hiatus, that is so wonderful that you have such excellent self control, and kudos to going to the gym!!

ooooh, where'd you find the dress? I'm headed to Mexico next month and am looking for something just like that...like how i zero in on the shopping - not on the nonshoppoing :)

I'm so glad to read that you and your hubby are doing better--eating healthy is always tough, but it's so great that you are committed to it as a family!

I am trying to get back into working out. Running is out of the question with my knee healing...but I can walk and elliptical. Maybe have some great clothes like these would make it something to look forward to!
