Book Club: chapter 7

I am finally feeling like myself again after being a bit under the weather the last couple of weeks. As for the Artist's Way, my morning pages suffered once again. I completely blame in on my fuzzy thinking. I am ready to dive back in, I some what missed them believe it or not. The book talked about perfectionism holding us back. Umm, yup, that would be me. I am truly scared to start my little girl dress line because what if I forget to sew all of a sudden. There has also been countless times that I have almost posted for sponsorship for my little blog, but always take it down because maybe just maybe I will wake up and I will no longer have any readers. Also I have been decorating people's homes, but to make that an actual job? Ha, I very well may forget how to shop! As you see I am ridiculous and maybe one day I will grab hold of one of my little dreams and do something. One day.

The book also asked us to listen to an album just because, Priscilla Ahn was my choice. This song makes me happy even while cleaning.

This week we read chapter 8

I have been feeling the same way lately! Isn't this book amazing though? I feel like it has been there just as I need it. Through the ongoing process of getting "good LOOK for less" going on my site and other little personal things here and there.

Seriously though Paula, you really need to start the dress line! I love your daughter's little dresses - they are so beautiful ~ plus, I'm pretty sure you won't forget how to sew! ;)

I hope you DO open a shop of your little girl dresses! You definitely should!!! Jake (my almost 15 mo. old son) was just asking me if you would also consider making some cool clothes for little boys.

I feel the same way as you... The fear of failure is paralyzing at times. If I could stop looking at things as all-or-nothing, I think that would help. There are varying degrees of things working out and all could be considered successes if we let them. And those failures, if viewed in the right way can teach us and be part of our success stories....

Sounds great... Now I just need to swallow it and live it! Baby steps are okay too.

Thanks for your perspective. I took an Artist's Way break and need/want to jump back in. I'm thinking of starting from the beginning again. It was so powerful when i first began.

Oh my goodness, what a great video!

This post made me stop and think... I can relate so, so much (is that proper grammar, I'm not sure)! It's amazing how fear can cripple us. And so quickly. I try and follow out my fears to the end though--looking at the worst possible outcome. So, you forget how to sew or your machine breaks or you find yourself in a "sewer's block." And guess what? There will be someone to reteach you how to sew, someone to lend you their machine, and someone to help inspire you. The support you have just even here, in our blogsphere, is intense and ready to jump the moment you need it! We love you dearest! You can do it!

I have the exact same problem! I am always so scared when I post something that it could have been better and now I am trying to start my own event design business and am so scared that I will forget how to put an inspiration board together!

Paula- loved this post. Hate that you've been feeling under the weather but so glad you are feeling better.

Totally understand what you mean about starting the dress line... I think you should do it. I would buy from you- and I don't even have children! :) I wish I had more time to design my stationery and invitations... but it just hasn't happened yet!

I've never heard her or this song before. I wanted to cry while listening and yes, I just downloaded it from iTunes. Just beautiful.

Paula, I need to get more music recommendations from you... every song you ever post about makes me want to run and buy it (I just bought this one off iTunes because I HAVE to use this for the slideshow I'm working on my John's grandmother's 90th birthday).

As for the shop... you sooo need to do it. You are so talented and I know I, for one, would be lined up to buy from your store (spending hiatus or not). Gather up your courage, girl. You are too good. :)

So, I've read this book about 5 times (even though I never actually did the exercises...I know, I'm bad) but I just pulled it again this week to get motivated for a project I'm wrapping up...my favorite line:

"Basic Principles #4: We are, ourselves, creations. And we, in turn, are meant to continue creativity by being creative ourselves."

I just keep repeating that! So, anyway, hope you are enjoying the book. I always find it really inspiring!

I wish I was reading this book. I know how you feel. You would have the cutest dress line, among all the other things you would excel at. But I know it is easy for me to sit here and say that and doing it is another. Especially with kids!

PS- I must have been on vacation, I came back and the blog looks different. I am LOVING the new look!

Good to hear that you are feeling better. You are such oa talented woman. I can't wait to see the things that you decide to explore. Don't be afraid of putting yourself out there I think you would be surprised at the response you would recieve for any of your endeavors! (Now I just have to take my own advice to heart!)

Aww, sorry you're not feeling at the top of your game. I definitely know about fears, perfectionism, etc holding you back, though. However, if I had a kid, I would absolutely buy your line!

Hang in there Paula..this happens right before a breakthrough --its called a "healing crisis" where your fears start screaming because they know somebody is gonna pass away and it just might be one of THEM!

Sounds like you have a few great ideas and inspirations just taking shape. I love the dress shop idea. Probably because I would certainly be shopping for my little one. I'm also loving the book and the process. It helps to hear what you are experiencing with it as well.
