To me, nothing updates a traditional room like colorful artwork.
In fact a piece of abstract art can change the whole feel of a room.
While going through my files of favorite photos it was amazing how many rooms had an over-sized, abstract work of art.
The more color the better.
If this doesn't make you happy I don't know what will.
Don't you think it adds some drama and sophistication to a room?
The best part is it doesn't have to cost a fortune. Go to Ebay or Esty or better yet paint your own. Or have your children paint it. How do you update a room?
Paula, thanks for letting me visit!!
Sissy I am so excited you were able to join me here, but let's not forget the most amazing piece of art I have seen in awhile...
the one you and your children did! Really its stunning. I can't wait till I can do this with my kiddos.

Sissy...I totally agree..absolutely love this post ..love large pieces of artwork in small spaces...and I love keeping old furniture old..if in mint condition..and mixing it with colour and a bit of mod decor..an eclectic mix of old and new.
Great post...hugs to Paula..hope she is feeling alot better soon xo
Yeah! Sissy is one of my very favs...and this post hits me where I live right now. Dark, traditional furniture in need of a lift. Thanks so much for the inspiration; you are right on with the art suggestions.

Great post. And I'm with you, Paula. I thought her artwork was great. Told her she should sell them on Etsy!
I love all the colorful artwork too! I just need to work on my husband, he thinks that only art with a barn in it is appropriate for our house!
I love the almost all white backdrops. It makes the colorful artwork pop! Way to go, Sissy!!
Sissy, your art is truly one of the most beautiful I have seen :) xx
Couldn't agree more! Love the artwork that Sissy and her students created.
i love statement art pieces, and the pictures you selected are perfect!
Love colorful artwork. I love sissy's painting! We have a few large canvases up in our playroom that my daughter did. I painted each canvas a different color...then let her go crazy. Its a lot of fun to see what they come up with! That was when she was 2. I need to do it again.
I love a big statement artwork in a room!
I couldn't agree more! I think home needs some fun art! really great post.
love this post! great idea on a nice big abstract painting to light up a room. if you've got the kiddos involved, you not only have the piece itself, but the memories in making it together.
suggestion on dark furniture: maybe some fun hardware could be swapped out for the traditional knobs if you don't want to paint it!
Hey Paula, I've been gone all day but I just wanted to stop by, say Hi and thanks for having me over!! Hope you have had a nice relaxing day with lots of rest!! xo Sissy
These rooms are beautiful! I especially love the blues and yellow, and that last piece of art - was it really done by a child?!
xo Erin
I agree! Artwork can have a huge colorful impact! Love all the inspiration photos you posted! :)
I have the same problem - good problem - dark antiques and hand me downs that are too special to paint. LOVE the light artwork to balance are the heaviness. All images are so pretty but the one you did with the kids is remarkable!
every piece you highlighted I want to put in my house
especially that last one :)
