Making Choices

I have been thinking for quite some time about having a new style sofa in our keeping room. It also acts as our home office when we have potential clients over for a meet and greet. Not that I did not like the light gray one we had, but it was rather large for the space. So I pitched the idea to the husband and he gave me the go as long as I sold the current one. Thankfully it sold quickly to a dear friend who happens to have a larger home than I. At first my heart was set on the english roll arm sofa...

Even though it is the same size as our old one it feels smaller due to the smaller arm proportions. I could also see it as our main sofa in our next home, but that may still be years away. Here is somewhat of an image of my old sofa in the room, just so you all can get an idea of the feel of the space. I then came across this lovely lady...

She is a bit more tailored and comes in a 72" option which would give us tons of extra room and open the room up even more. It also reminds me of this beauty in which I have had my eye on for quite some time. As I said our sofa sold and I still haven't even ordered the next sofa so I moved the chairs that were on the outer edge of the rug back to where the sofa once sat. I could even face this new sofa towards the windows with a console/storage behind it if I didn't move the chairs back. Just a thought.

Then again I rather like how moving the chairs opened up the space. This then got me thinking that maybe I could just add one new chair by the piano. Loved how the other chairs somewhat hid all the toy baskets.  The only downfall is that at times we have a lot of people in this small space and it is my favorite place to lounge with a magazine and I do love to lay out. I think a chair like this would work if I went with this idea though...

Then of course choosing a fabric is the next big decision...

I LOVE all these choices. I know pink would never actually happen for this space, but it would be fun. Maybe one day. You know how I love a pink sofa. I was thinking the natural linen for the english sofa and the more gray tones for the more tailored sofa. As for the chair I have no idea as of yet, I could possibly even do a pattern here.

I would love your thoughts and ideas. It can be kind of like a vote, but in the end I truly decide. Ha. I am the one that has to live with it after all.I do value your opinion greatly though.

*all my choices are by Robin Bruce an extension of Rowe. I like that it is an eco friendly line that also happens to be in my budget.

I like the 2nd sofa in the neutral tone. Then you have more seating space. :)

The 2nd sofa is great. Hope you order it. And the armchair would work perfectly - a really great statement colour would show it off too.

We have an apartment-size roll-arm sofa, which I love, in our living room-- it fits three folks comfortably, you can nap on it, and it is just enough smaller than a standard size that it fills the space visually without overfilling it. Bought at an after-market sale in High Point for 10% of retail (that's right--10% OF retail, not 10% off retail!!)
My friend used this place http://www.customsofadesign.com/ after seeing int on LGN (her sofas were later featured on LGN, too) and she said they was a dream to work with and the prices were unbelievable for custom options.

LOVE the natural linen! On the English arm roll sofa. Looks much more cozy than the second, though I love the look of it. I bought a tight back sofa when I bought my first place and have regretted it every day since. We still have it, but it's not exactly something you want to sink into at the end of a long day! Looks pretty, though.

I found your blog via Taryn's several months back and immediately put it into my feed. Love your site!

Decisions, decisions. Such fun. Hmm. I like how moving the chairs opened up your space so I can see just adding another chair, but sofas are so cozy and easier to lounge on. The English roll-armed sofa would probably be comfier in the long run. Although, the tailored look of the second one is appealing. I'm no help at all. I like the greige linen and the natural linen if you go the sofa route. I've been loving Celerie Kemble's fabrics for Schumacher especially the Cloisonne Velvet for a chair. Sorry, not sure that was helpful.

I'm sure whatever you pick will look great!

oh my goodness, I am in the same position as you! we sold ours five months ago, and still waiting! lol. it will come some time. Its just so hard to wait. I am also trying to figure out how I want to recover my sectional down stairs.
...but for your room I really think the pink would be so fun! I really think you could pull it off.
good luck! have fun with all the choices. your home always looks beautiful.

I can't wait to see what you decide on. I'm in the process of deciding on a new sofa for the new house. Too many to choose from. Well, budget does narrow down my list a good bit!

I'm a sucker for william birch style sofas so love the first one in the linen or greige fabrics you chose. Think it will be more comfortable and as you said you have lots of people in the room, so it would be a better choice than a chair. I would place it back in front of the window so it doesn't block off the room. Can't wait to see what you do!

I actually like the the way the two chairs opened up the space I was thinking that before you said it... so I agree that maybe another chair would be the key.
hmmm looking forward to your decision :)
Hope you had a great weekend

I love English roll arm, but the smaller option might be better due to size. I also like the natural linen or griege for the fabric. Can't wait to see what you go with!

Sofa #2 is so, so chic. I agree with most everyone's comments that it looks properly tailored for a client-meeting space. Good luck choosing, Paula!

How many people do you typically have in the room (max)? You'll likely need more room (ie. sofa- in which case def #2! she's pretty!) but if you usually cap it off at 5, then a chair would be plenty of seating! And definitely open up the room. Such a gorgeous room, by the way. Where is the rug from? Do you have trouble keeping the light rug clean?!

love the second sofa. looks like a fun project in the works.

for me it would be the second sofa all the way. and here i am thinking about your business, especially weddings - i think the sofa is the better option as it allows the bride and groom to sit together in a circumstance where they may be nervous - interviewing. just a thought.

I like sofa #1 with the deep grey. If I had to choose between the sofa or a chair and ottoman, I would choose the chair. Much easier to change and changes up the room a little.

I like both sofas...can you try them for comfort. You'll have more seating (and a napping spot) with a sofa rather than another chair. You have great choices.

We are temporarily between houses (having sold ours and now renting until my son graduates and we can move south!). We had a huge estate sale and sold nearly everything, including our 3 couches and the rest of our stuff is in storage. So, we are left with chairs and ottomans and we miss having a couch! No matter how comfortable the chair is, you will miss being able to lounge. So my vote is for the couch! :)

sofa number two... so pretty and i love the lines!

i love your sofa choices, esp the tufted one, but if it would go in front of the window, my vote goes for a new chair & ottoman by the piano. such fun decisions to make!

Both would look great. I am a sucker for the English Arm sofas. So that would be my choice in the Linen fabric. And then maybe a chair in that pink for a fun pop of color!

What a fun project, Paula! And congratulations on selling the sofa.

I love the gray tailored sofa (if it means guests sitting in it and not sleeping on it!). Feel the sofa is so you. Stylish and classy with a modern twist.

I would not keep the sofa by the window, though. I would have it face the window. And put one or two lovely chairs by the window (and especially your reading chair. It is so yummy to read in natural light). And turn that whole area into a guest conversation area.

Warm hugs, + have fun in the snow!
