Modern Living

As you know I love a cottage, but every once in awhile I think going completely modern would be quite fabulous. Of course, modern must be done right and it comes with a hefty price tag. This home is done right. Gorgeous isn't it? Nice clean lined furniture and great art are a must. I think most people's main concern with going modern is where do you put your stuff. Well, I like the idea of being minimal and besides who needs toys when you can ride your bike in doors and play in the pool daily. I think the homebody in me would love my own compound. Now just to come up with a mere $799,900.

Could you be this minimal and go modern?

*As always you may email me for the listing if interested.

  1. As much as I appreciate this house in terms of design I really couldn't live like that personally.

To me a modern style of this type just doesn't seem homely or comforting but that is just me and it doesn't mean that I can't admire it beauty of course!

  2. no..I couldn't do this. Pieces of it, though! But, who knows...the older I get I seem to love more and more modern stuff!

  3. Like others, it's not for me-- but it is so well-designed, and I appreciate that. I just like a softer edge. And truthfully-- that price tag seems low to me-- not that 3/4 million is chump change!

  4. I have been dreaming of a new space lately..and modern has been part of it. But for me it would have to be a mix, modern with rustic touches. I couldn't go completely modern...but I do think those pictures are amazing. It looks like I'm in for another day of house day dreaming! Thx Paula!

  5. Wait - where on earth is this house in Birmingham? It doesn't seem to fit in Mountain Brook. Modern isn't my thing, but this really is gorgeous.

I put my house on the market Tuesday. It almost seems unthinkable that pictures of it will show up on the same web site as this house. Crazy.

  6. DO WANT. If I could bring myself to just scrap all my possessions and start fresh, and not have to find a place for any of my stuff in that gorgeous home, I could absolutely live there. The lines, the angles, the stone. Love it all. This modern minimalist look is such a departure from how I live now (crowded, mishmash, no design or style to speak of). I think I would relish the change.

  8. I think it would be perfect if I didn't have kids and I had a full time cleaning lady. :)

  9. I have to say, I had no idea homes like this existed in Birmingham! Not really my style but still fun to look at.

  11. We LOVE modern and I seriously laughed at the price tag. In New England that thing would be multiple millions. Got to love the south!

  12. i love the open space, but too modern for me.

  13. I would like to think I could be this minimal, but I doubt it! It sounds kind of gross when I say it out loud, but I like I guess I like my "stuff." Yay to the homeowners for thinking outside the Birmingham box ... it can be a touch redundant!

  14. I've actually been to that house! The owner collects modern art and so he built his house in order to display it. Such a cool place, but definitely not my taste for a home.

  16. I couldn't. I respect it fully, but there is no way.

  17. to me it's moved from minimalism to austere, so it's not for me. especially that bedroom. too sterile and unlived in.

but i do love that pool.

  18. i'm a bit of a maximalist by nature but i do toy with the idea of modern living occasionally. i think the secret must be closed cabinetry — garage-like shelving to keep all your belongings out of sight!

  19. this house is a little cold inside for me (except that great bathroom), but I do love the exterior. it's freaking hard to get to though...weird, weird location. oh well, I guess that equals private.

  20. the price tag is due to it being in Birmingham city limits and not in an area with a good school system. If it were in Mtn Brook (or even Vestavia, Homewood or Hoover)it would be millions.

  21. It's a beautiful home. I do love modern design but it's not always my first choice. Although if I infused a mix of modern/traditional in this space than I could do it.

  22. Love it! That bathroom is awesome and love those Barcelona chairs.

  23. I love the look and the serenity you get in a home like this...I just couldn't live in in 365 days a year. If I had this as a vacation home...that's a different story!

  24. I think this home is beautiful, but I know I could never go that minimal. And there would be way too many things about the house that my husband "just doesn't understand" - that's what he always says about things that are overly modern. :)
